PM Modi to visit Chhattisgarh, will Inaugurate Crucial Rail Sector Projects Worth Rs. 6,350 Crore

Estimated reading time: 3 minutes

Prime Minister Modi’s vision of improving connectivity across the country is taking a significant stride forward with the dedication to the nation of pivotal rail sector projects in Raigarh, totaling an investment of approximately Rs. 6,350 crore. These projects play a pivotal role in not only enhancing transportation but also stimulating socioeconomic development across the region.

Chhattisgarh East Rail Project Phase-I

One of the key projects under the ambit of PM GatiShakti – National Master Plan for multi-modal connectivity is the Chhattisgarh East Rail Project Phase-I. This ambitious venture encompasses a 124.8 km rail line stretching from Kharsia to Dharamjaygarh, including a spur line to Gare-Pelma and feeder lines connecting Chhal, Baroud, Durgapur, and other coal mines. Built at an approximate cost of around Rs. 3,055 crore, this electrified broad gauge level crossing and free part double line equipped with passenger amenities will enhance rail connectivity for efficient coal transportation from Mand-Raigarh coalfields located in Raigarh, Chhattisgarh.

Expansion of Rail Network

The expansion of the rail network includes the third rail line between Pendra Road to Anuppur, spanning 50 km and built at a cost of approximately Rs 516 crore. Furthermore, the 98-kilometer-long third line between Champa and Jamga rail section, costing about Rs. 796 crores, adds another dimension to the improved connectivity in the region. These additional rail lines are expected to have a positive impact on tourism and generate employment opportunities.

Merry-Go-Round (MGR) System

The 65-km-long electrified Merry-Go-Round (MGR) System is another notable project, facilitating the transportation of low-cost, high-grade coal from NTPC’s Talaipalli coal mine to the 1600 MW NTPC Lara Super Thermal Power Station in Chhattisgarh. This endeavor, constructed at a cost exceeding Rs 2070 crore, is a technological marvel aimed at enhancing coal transportation efficiency from mines to power stations. It contributes significantly to the generation of low-cost and reliable power, thereby reinforcing the country’s energy security.

Empowering Healthcare Infrastructure

In addition to the rail projects, the Prime Minister will also lay the foundation stone for 50-bed ‘critical care blocks’ in nine districts of Chhattisgarh. These Critical Care Blocks, developed under the Pradhan Mantri – Ayushman Bharat Health Infrastructure Mission (PM-ABHIM), will be established in Durg, Kondagaon, Rajnandgaon, Gariaband, Jashpur, Surajpur, Surguja, Bastar, and Raigarh Districts. The total cost for these blocks is expected to exceed Rs. 210 Crore.

Addressing Health Challenges

Prime Minister’s commitment to addressing health issues, particularly sickle cell disease among the tribal population, will be evident through the distribution of one lakh sickle cell counseling cards to the screened population. This initiative falls under the National Sickle Cell Anaemia Elimination Mission (NSAEM), which the Prime Minister launched in July 2023 at Shahdol, Madhya Pradesh. These efforts reflect the government’s dedication to improving healthcare services and addressing health challenges, especially among vulnerable populations.
