Pravasi Bharatiya Divas is a day to celebrate the Indian diaspora. It is a day to recognize their achievements and contributions to their home countries and to the global community. The day is also an opportunity to connect with the Indian diaspora and learn more about their experiences.

The Republic of India celebrates the contributions of the overseas Indian community to India’s development of Pravasi Bharatiya Divas, which was established in 2003 and is observed on January 9th. 9 January commemorates the day Mahatma Gandhi returned from South Africa to Mumbai in 1915.
2. What is the purpose of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas?
The Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is an annual event held in India since 2003. It is organized by the Ministry of External Affairs to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa in 1915. The PBD is a platform for the Indian diaspora to connect with their homeland. The event includes cultural performances, business seminars, and networking opportunities.
3. What is the history of the Pravasi Bharatiya Divas?
In accordance with recommendations of the High-Level Committee (HLC) on the Indian Diaspora set up by the government of India under the chairmanship of L. M. Singhvi, the decision to celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas was taken. At a public function at Vigyan Bhavan in New Delhi on 8 January 2002, the then Prime Minister of India, Shri Atal Bihari Vajpayee, received the report of the Committee and announced the “Pravasi Bharatiya Divas” (PBD) on 9 January 2002. Mahatma Gandhi’s return to India from South Africa in 1915 is commemorated by the holiday.
4. How do we celebrate Pravasi Bharatiya Divas?
Pravasi Bharatiya Divas (PBD) is celebrated on January 9th to commemorate the return of Mahatma Gandhi from South Africa to India in 1915. On this day, the government of India honors the contribution of overseas Indians to the country.
There are many ways to celebrate PBD. Some people may choose to attend the official government celebration, while others may choose to organize their own events or celebrations. The important thing is to commemorate and honor the overseas Indian community in some way on this day.
