President Droupadi Murmu expressed deep sorrow at the demise of Dr. Kamala Das, a prominent political figure in Odisha who served as a minister in the state government. Das, whose long public career was marked by tireless efforts for the progress of Odisha, passed away in the early hours of Friday at a hospital in Cuttack.
In her statement, President Murmu hailed Kamala Das’s unwavering commitment to the welfare of Odisha and its citizens throughout her illustrious career. As an elected representative and minister, Das dedicated herself to the service of the people, leaving a lasting impact on the state’s development trajectory.
Dr. Kamala Das, first elected as an MLA in 1990 from the Bhograi constituency in the Balasore district on a Janata Dal ticket, continued to serve the people through multiple terms. She later joined the Biju Janata Dal (BJD) and held key ministerial positions in the governments of Biju Patnaik and Naveen Patnaik, focusing on education, youth services, health, family welfare, and women and child development.
Despite political transitions and challenges, Das remained steadfast in her commitment to public service. Her contributions to Odisha’s governance and social welfare earned her respect and admiration from colleagues and constituents alike.
The passing of Dr. Kamala Das marks the end of an era in Odisha politics, leaving behind a legacy of dedication, integrity, and service. President Murmu extended her heartfelt condolences to Das’s family members, friends, and followers, mourning the loss of a stalwart leader and offering solace during this difficult time.
