President Murmu to Confer Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards for 2022 and 2023

President Droupadi Murmu of India is set to preside over the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards ceremony, where 94 eminent artists will be honored for their remarkable contributions to the field of performing arts. These awards, also known as Akademi Puraskar, recognize excellence in various forms of performing arts such as music, dance, drama, folk & tribal arts, puppetry, and allied theater art forms.

Accompanying President Murmu at the award investiture ceremony will be Minister for Culture, Tourism, and DoNER, Shri G. Kishan Reddy, MoS for Law & Justice (Independent Charge) and Parliamentary Affairs and Culture, Shri Arjun Ram Meghwal, Secretary of the Ministry of Culture, Shri Govind Mohan, and Chairman of Sangeet Natak Akademi, Dr. Sandhya Purecha, along with other government dignitaries.

In addition to honoring artists with the Akademi Awards for the years 2022 and 2023, President Murmu will bestow the prestigious Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship, also known as Akademi Ratna, upon seven distinguished artists. This fellowship is the highest honor bestowed upon individuals in the performing arts field, recognizing their exceptional contributions to their respective art forms.

The Sangeet Natak Akademi Fellowship is a rare and esteemed honor, limited to only 40 recipients at any given time. The recipients of both the fellowship and the awards will receive not only the recognition of their peers but also monetary prizes. The Akademi Fellowship carries a purse of Rs.3,00,000/- (Rupees three lakhs), while the Akademi Award carries a purse of Rs.1,00,000/- (Rupees one lakh), in addition to a Tamrapatra and Angavastram.

Since its inception in 1952, the Sangeet Natak Akademi Awards have symbolized the highest standards of excellence and achievement in the performing arts. These honors not only recognize individual talent but also celebrate sustained contributions to the cultural landscape of India.
