In a momentous event in Odisha, President Droupadi Murmu flagged off a trio of new trains and inaugurated key infrastructure projects, underscoring the government’s commitment to regional development. The President marked the occasion by launching the Badampahar – Tatanagar MEMU, Badampahar – Rourkela Weekly Express, and Badampahar – Shalimar Weekly Express from the Badampahar Railway Station on November 21, 2023. Additionally, she virtually inaugurated the new Rairangpur Postal Division, released a Commemorative Special Cover of the Rairangpur Postal Division, and laid the foundation stone for the redevelopment of Badampahar Railway Station.

“Addressing the gathered audience, President Murmu emphasized the pivotal role of connectivity in fostering development within a region. Whether through rail, roads, or postal services, these essential services significantly contribute to the ease of people’s lives. She highlighted that the newly inaugurated trains would facilitate local travel to neighboring states such as Jharkhand and West Bengal, eliminating inconvenience for those visiting Odisha’s industrial hub, Rourkela”.

President Murmu acknowledged the enduring relevance of India Post despite the rise of cell phones and courier services. The inauguration of the new Postal Division in Rairangpur was hailed as a significant event for the region, with the President expressing confidence that residents would now have easy access to postal services.

In her address, President Murmu underscored the government’s commitment to tribal community development, noting a nearly threefold increase in the current budget compared to the financial year 2013-14. Stressing the importance of inclusive development, especially for tribal communities, she urged tribal youth to avail themselves of government schemes while emphasizing the necessity of individual efforts for self-development.

“The President highlighted the PM JANMAN initiative launched this year, dedicated to the development of Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs) on Janjatiya Gaurav Divas. She expressed confidence that this step would propel tribal communities towards progress and contribute to India’s overarching goal of becoming a developed nation”.

“Following the event, President Droupadi Murmu embarked on a journey aboard the Badampahar – Shalimar Express from Badampahar to Rairangpur, symbolizing a literal and metaphorical journey towards progress and connectivity in the region”.
