President Droupadi Murmu of India recently commended Mauritius for its heartfelt tribute to Mahatma Gandhi, expressing admiration for the special gesture during her visit to the island nation. During her journey on the Metro, just before arriving at the Mahatma Gandhi Institute, President Murmu was deeply moved by the Government of Mauritius’ decision to name the station at Reduit after Mahatma Gandhi. This gesture not only underscores the enduring legacy of the Mahatma but also symbolizes the strong bond shared between India and Mauritius.
Furthermore, President Murmu expressed her appreciation for the depiction of the famous Dandi March at the station, emphasizing its significance to both nations. The Dandi March, led by Mahatma Gandhi in 1930, marked a pivotal moment in India’s struggle for independence, showcasing the principles of nonviolent resistance and civil disobedience.
