Prime Minister Modi Celebrates Golden Jubilee of Amul at Motera Stadium

Prime Minister Narendra Modi marked a historic milestone by joining the Golden Jubilee celebration of the Gujarat Cooperative Milk Marketing Federation (GCMMF) at Motera Stadium in Ahmedabad. The event showcased the remarkable journey of Amul, a testament to the resilience and entrepreneurial spirit of cooperatives and farmers, which has made it one of the world’s leading dairy brands.

Addressing the gathering, Prime Minister Modi commended the legacy of Amul, which originated from a humble sapling planted by Gujarat farmers half a century ago and has since grown into a global icon. He emphasized the pivotal role of ‘Pashu Dhan’ (livestock) in the White Revolution, acknowledging their contribution to India’s dairy sector.

Highlighting the unparalleled success of Amul, Prime Minister Modi hailed it as a symbol of trust, development, and public participation. He stressed that Amul embodies the spirit of self-reliant India (Atmanirbhar Bharat) and serves as an inspiration for the nation. With products exported to over 50 countries, Amul’s achievements include a vast network of milk cooperative committees, benefiting millions of farmers.

Prime Minister Modi underscored the significant role of women in India’s dairy sector, noting their pivotal contribution to its success. He highlighted government initiatives such as the Mudra Yojana and support for women-led development, emphasizing the empowerment of women in rural economies.

The Prime Minister outlined the government’s commitment to transforming rural India, emphasizing initiatives to strengthen the agricultural sector, enhance water conservation, and promote cooperative societies. He announced measures to support livestock breeders, improve irrigation methods, and combat diseases affecting cattle.

In his address, Prime Minister Modi announced plans to purchase cow dung from livestock farmers under the Gobar Dhan Yojana, promoting biogas production for electricity generation. He praised the establishment of biogas plants by Amul, citing them as examples of successful initiatives in the dairy sector.

“Highlighting the government’s focus on cooperative societies, Prime Minister Modi announced the establishment of a separate Ministry of Cooperation and emphasized support for Made-in-India manufacturing. He reaffirmed the government’s commitment to empowering small farmers and promoting agri-entrepreneurship”.

Prime Minister Modi concluded by expressing confidence in Amul’s continued success and urged it to become the world’s largest dairy company. He assured the government’s unwavering support and extended his best wishes on reaching the milestone of 50 years.

The event, attended by dignitaries including Governor of Gujarat Shri Acharya Devvrat and Chief Minister Shri Bhupendra Patel, witnessed the participation of over 1.25 lakh farmers, highlighting the significance of Amul’s journey in transforming India’s dairy landscape.
