On the 17th of April Rahul Gandhi, a prominent Indian politician, and member of the Indian National Congress party, recently made a statement highlighting the importance of democracy in India and its historical roots. He credited Basavanna ji, a 12th-century philosopher and social reformer, as the one who first showed the path of democracy in India.
