The derailment took place around 3:30-3:45 am near Barabamboo station, resulting in a tragic accident that claimed the lives of at least two passengers and injured several others. Eighteen coaches of the train came off the tracks in the Chakradharpur Division of South Eastern Railway (SER).

In response to the accident, multiple agencies coordinated efforts to manage the situation. Accident Relief Medical Equipment (ARME) teams and additional personnel from the Chakradharpur Railway Division were swiftly deployed to offer immediate assistance following the derailment. All passengers were evacuated and moved to Chakradharpur by special trains and buses.
