Rajinikanth ( Shivaji Rao Gaikwad ) born on December 12th, 1950 is an Indian actor, producer, and screenwriter. He works predominantly in Tamil cinema, where he is also referred to as Super Star or Thalaivar.
One of the most successful and popular actors in the history of Indian cinema, he is widely regarded. He has a cult following across South India for his uniquely styled lines and idiosyncrasies in films.
Many cultural tropes in India’s daily life and Tamil Nadu’s popular culture can be attributed to his successful ventures and matinée idol status. He has done 160 films in a career spanning over five decades, including other regional languages besides Tamil.
He was honored with Padma Bhushan in 2000 and Padma Vibhushan in 2016 by the Government of India, India’s third and second highest civilian honors, for his contributions to Indian Cinema.
