Defence Minister Rajnath Singh has extended warm birthday wishes to Union Minister Smriti Irani, lauding her remarkable efforts in strengthening India’s ‘Nari Shakti’ (women’s power). Irani, a seasoned politician and former actress, has been serving as the Minister of Women and Child Development since 2019, alongside her role as Minister of Minority Affairs since 2022, marking the first instance of a non-Muslim holding this position.
Irani’s illustrious political journey includes previous ministerial stints as Minister of Human Resource Development, Textiles, and Information and Broadcasting. Her dedication and leadership have earned her the distinction of being the youngest minister in Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s second ministry.
A member of parliament since 2011, Irani has served in both the Rajya Sabha and the Lok Sabha, representing Gujarat and the Amethi constituency in Uttar Pradesh, respectively. Notably, she secured victory in Amethi in the 2019 elections, defeating prominent opposition leader Rahul Gandhi.
Irani’s diverse family background, encompassing Punjabi, Maharashtrian, and Bengali heritage, reflects her multicultural upbringing. Fluent in multiple Indian languages, including Hindi, Bengali, Marathi, Gujarati, and Punjabi, she embodies India’s rich linguistic and cultural diversity.
As Rajnath Singh extends his warm wishes to Smriti Irani on her birthday, he acknowledges her pivotal role in championing women’s rights and empowerment in the country. His prayers for her good health and long life resonate with the sentiments of many across the nation, recognizing Irani’s invaluable contributions to Indian politics and society.
