The Steel Authority of India Limited (SAIL), India’s leading public sector steel producer, has taken a major leap in its global expansion journey by inaugurating its first international Representative Office in Dubai. This strategic move underscores SAIL’s ambition to strengthen its presence in global markets and aligns with India’s larger vision of enhancing its steel industry’s global footprint.
The Dubai office was officially inaugurated by Union Minister of Steel and Heavy Industries, Shri H.D. Kumaraswamy, in a high-profile ceremony attended by senior dignitaries, including the Consul General of India to Dubai, Shri Satish Kumar Sivan, SAIL CMD Shri Amarendu Prakash, NMDC CMD Shri Amitava Mukherjee, Joint Secretary to the Ministry of Steel Shri VK Tripathi, and senior officials from SAIL, NMDC, MECON, and the Ministry of Steel.
A Strategic Launchpad to the MENA Region
Located in one of the world’s most dynamic trade and investment hubs, the Dubai office is envisioned as a gateway to the Middle East and North Africa (MENA) region. With Dubai’s reputation for robust logistics, business-friendly policies, and access to emerging markets, SAIL aims to boost steel exports, strengthen industry collaborations, and enhance India-UAE trade relations.
The newly inaugurated office will serve as a key node in SAIL’s international network, helping the company forge deeper linkages with customers, partners, and stakeholders across the region. By positioning itself closer to high-potential markets, SAIL intends to respond faster to global demand and supply trends, thus improving its competitiveness on the world stage.
Supporting India’s Steel Vision 2030
This milestone also reflects India’s strategic objectives under the National Steel Policy, which targets an ambitious 300 million tonnes of steel production by 2030. SAIL’s expansion into the Middle East complements these goals by opening new channels for exports and showcasing Indian steel excellence to the world.
Speaking at the event, Shri Kumaraswamy emphasized the importance of expanding India’s steel trade in global markets:
“The launch of SAIL’s Dubai office is a landmark moment—not just for the company, but for India’s entire steel sector. It marks a strong step toward our ambition of becoming a global steel leader. We believe this office will significantly enhance our presence and partnerships across the MENA region.”
SAIL’s Global Outlook
With an annual crude steel capacity exceeding 20 million tonnes, SAIL is one of India’s largest steelmakers. The company has been ramping up its modernization and diversification efforts, focusing on value-added products, sustainable production, and global outreach.
CMD of SAIL, Shri Amarendu Prakash, also highlighted the importance of this move:
“Establishing our first international office in the Middle East marks a significant new chapter for SAIL. We intend to harness Dubai’s strategic position and dynamic business ecosystem to build lasting partnerships and meet the rising demand for steel in the region’s infrastructure and construction sectors.”
The event marks a significant turning point in SAIL’s transformation from a domestic industry leader to a globally competitive player, underlining the broader narrative of India’s rising influence in international steel markets.
As SAIL sets its sights on new territories, the Dubai office stands as both a symbol of progress and a platform for future growth—reflecting not only the company’s ambitions but also the strength and promise of India’s steel industry.
