South Eastern Coalfields Ltd (SECL) has demonstrated an exceptional performance by reaching the unprecedented milestone of dispatching 100 million tonnes of coal within the fiscal year 2023-24. This accomplishment is a testament to the company’s efficiency and operational excellence in meeting the surging demands of the power sector across the nation.

Significantly, over 80% of the total coal dispatch was directed to power plants, amounting to approximately 81 million tonnes, catering to the escalating power demands anticipated during the upcoming festival season. The remarkable contribution to the power sector’s requirements highlights SECL’s pivotal role in sustaining the nation’s energy needs.

“The success of SECL’s mega projects, including Gevra, Dipka, and Kusmunda situated in the Korba district, has been instrumental in achieving the remarkable 100 million tonnes coal dispatch milestone. Gevra, recognized as the largest coal mine in the country, has contributed a substantial 30.3 MT, while Dipka and Kusmunda added 19.1 MT and 25.1 MT of coal, respectively. Collectively, these three mega projects have accounted for more than 74 percent of the total coal dispatch”.

Moreover, SECL’s efforts in the Korea Rewa coalfield, where several old and underground mines are located, have shown commendable progress. The coal dispatch from this area increased by 20% compared to the previous year, further consolidating SECL’s overall performance.

“As one of the leading coal-producing subsidiaries of Coal India, SECL has been a significant contributor to the overall coal production. In the previous fiscal year 2022-23, the company produced a record-breaking 167 million tonnes of coal, representing nearly one-fourth of Coal India’s total coal production. With a set target of 197 million tonnes of coal production for the ongoing fiscal year, SECL continues to play a pivotal role in meeting the nation’s coal demands”.

SECL’s exceptional achievement in surpassing the 100 million tonnes coal dispatch within this fiscal year underscores the company’s robust commitment to meeting the growing energy needs of the country. The company’s relentless efforts and efficient operations mark a significant milestone in the nation’s energy landscape.
