West Bengal is currently grappling with an ongoing flood crisis as the River Teesta at Domohani in Jalpaiguri district continues to pose a severe threat. The latest update from the Central Water Commission’s official flood forecast is worrisome, indicating that the river remains in a severe situation.
As per the report, the water level of the River Teesta at Domohani is recorded at 85.95 meters, with a rising trend. Of particular concern is the fact that this level is precisely at the danger threshold of 85.95 meters. The situation remains critically poised, demanding constant monitoring and preparedness.
“The severe flood situation in the region has prompted local authorities to take swift and decisive action. Residents in the affected areas are urged to stay vigilant and heed safety advisories issued by the authorities. Additionally, rescue and relief operations are likely to be in full swing as efforts are made to minimize the impact of the flooding and ensure the safety of those in vulnerable areas”.
In situations like these, early warnings and timely responses are critical in mitigating the impact of floods and safeguarding lives and property. The Central Water Commission’s flood forecast plays a crucial role in providing valuable information for disaster management and response efforts.
