Severe Situation Persists: Central Water Commission’s Flood Forecast for River Kosi in Bihar

Estimated reading time: 1 minute

The Central Water Commission (CWC) has issued an official flood forecast indicating that the River Kosi, at Baltara in Khagaria district, Bihar, is still grappling with a severe flood situation. Despite a falling trend in water levels, the situation remains critical, with the river currently flowing at 34.47 meters.

The falling trend, while a positive sign, does not completely alleviate concerns, as the river’s current level is still significantly higher than its designated danger level of 33.85 meters. The CWC continues to closely monitor the situation, providing essential updates and guidance to local authorities and residents.

“During times of severe flooding, preparedness and vigilance are of utmost importance. Communities in the affected areas should remain on high alert, with disaster response plans and early warning systems in place to ensure the safety and well-being of residents”.

The River Kosi, known for its unpredictable behavior during the monsoon season, often presents challenges to the regions it flows through. Timely communication of water level updates and adherence to official advisories are crucial for effective disaster management and response efforts.
