Bhupender Yadav, Minister of Environment, Forest and Climate Change, shared exhilarating news from Kuno National Park, India, as female cheetah Gamini gave birth to five healthy cubs today. This development not only marks a joyous occasion but also signifies a remarkable milestone in India’s conservation journey.

Expressing his excitement, Yadav declared, “High Five, Kuno! Female cheetah Gamini, aged about 5 years, brought from Tswalu Kalahari Reserve, South Africa, has given birth to 5 cubs today.” This event not only celebrates the birth of these precious cubs but also highlights the success of conservation efforts in reintroducing cheetahs to Indian landscapes.

Yadav emphasized the significance of this litter, stating, “This takes the tally of the Indian-born cubs to 13. This is the fourth cheetah litter on Indian soil and the first litter of cheetahs brought from South Africa.” The successful birth of these cubs underscores the effectiveness of conservation strategies and the commitment to preserving endangered species.

Acknowledging the collective effort behind this achievement, Yadav extended his congratulations, particularly to the team of forest officers, veterinarians, and field staff. Their dedication and meticulous care ensured a stress-free environment for the cheetahs, fostering successful mating and the birth of the cubs.

With the addition of Gamini’s cubs, the total number of cheetahs in Kuno National Park now stands at 26, further enriching the biodiversity of the region. This milestone not only honors Gamini’s legacy but also signifies a significant step forward in the conservation of cheetahs in India.
