Madhya Pradesh Chief Minister Mohan Yadav conveyed warm birthday wishes to Sumitra Mahajan ‘Tai,’ the esteemed former Speaker of Lok Sabha. Recognizing her contributions to Indian politics, CM Yadav praised Mahajan’s trinity of service, affection, and sacrifice, highlighting her unwavering dedication to public welfare.
Born on April 12, 1943, Sumitra Mahajan, affectionately known as Tai, made significant strides in her political career. Representing the Indore constituency of Madhya Pradesh for three decades, she holds the distinction of being the longest-serving Woman Member of Parliament. Her tenure as Speaker from 2014 to 2019 showcased her adept leadership and commitment to parliamentary democracy.
Sumitra Mahajan’s political journey extends beyond her role as Speaker. She served as a Union Minister of State from 1999 to 2004, overseeing critical portfolios such as Human Resource Development, Communications and Information Technology, and Petroleum and Natural Gas. Additionally, she chaired several key committees, including the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment and the Standing Committee on Rural Development.
Earning accolades for her exemplary service, Mahajan was honored with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, in 2021. Her dedication to public service, coupled with her compassionate leadership, has left an indelible mark on Indian politics.
CM Yadav expressed his heartfelt wishes for Mahajan’s well-being, invoking the blessings of Baba Mahakal for her continued guidance and good health. As Tai celebrates her birthday, her legacy of integrity, resilience, and unwavering commitment to the nation continues to inspire generations.
