Her tenure as Speaker from 2014 to 2019 showcased her adept leadership and commitment to parliamentary democracy.

Sumitra Mahajan’s political journey extends beyond her role as Speaker. She served as a Union Minister of State from 1999 to 2004, overseeing critical portfolios such as Human Resource Development, Communications and Information Technology, and Petroleum and Natural Gas. Additionally, she chaired several key committees, including the Standing Committee on Social Justice and Empowerment and the Standing Committee on Rural Development.

Earning accolades for her exemplary service, Mahajan was honored with the Padma Bhushan, India’s third-highest civilian award, in 2021. Her dedication to public service, coupled with her compassionate leadership, has left an indelible mark on Indian politics.
