The Ministry Of Coal Set A Target Of Producing More Than 1 billion Tonnes Of Coal In 2023-24.

The Ministry of Coal is targeting the production of more than one billion tons (BT) of coal during the 2023-24 fiscal year. The Coal Secretary has carried out an in-depth review of all coal companies in order to achieve this aim.

A target of 780 million tons has been set for CIL, 75 million tons for Singareni Collieries Company Ltd, and 162 million tons for captive and commercial mines. CIL operates a total of 290 mines, 97 of which produce more than one MT per year.

For all 97 such coal mines, the issues of land acquisition, forest clearance, environment clearance, rail connectivity, and road connectivity have been discussed and timelines have been fixed. It is noteworthy that due to the continuous efforts of coal companies, out of 97 coal mines, there is no pending case in 56 mines.

There are 61 issues in only 41 mines, for which constant coordination and monitoring is being done by the top management of coal companies with the State Government. Concerned Authority and Central Ministry.

CIL has produced 622 MT during the year 2021-22, registering a growth of over 16%. 513 MT have been produced so far during the year 2022-23. CIL is expected to surpass the target of 700 MT fixed for the current fiscal and achieve 780 MT by 2023-24.
