As the situation in Israel and Gaza continues to develop, the UK government has taken decisive actions to support British nationals seeking to leave the affected areas. Amidst ongoing concerns for their safety and well-being, these measures reflect the commitment to the security of its citizens in times of crisis.
Multiple Flights to Facilitate Departure
The UK government has organized a series of facilitated flights to enable British nationals to leave Israel and Cyprus. These flights provide a means for those who wish to depart the region amid the escalating situation. The deployment of these flights is part of a broader effort to ensure the safety and welfare of British citizens.
Support from UK Government Rapid Deployment Teams and Red Cross Responders
To further assist vulnerable British nationals in their departure, two UK Government Rapid Deployment Teams (RDT) and responders from the British Red Cross have been mobilized. Their presence ensures that those requiring assistance can access the necessary support and guidance throughout the process of leaving the affected areas.
Cooperation to Maintain Commercial Air Links
Recognizing the challenges posed by the limited availability of commercial flights, the UK government is actively collaborating with Israeli air controllers and the aviation industry. Their aim is to preserve existing commercial air links and explore various transport options. This commitment to maintaining transportation connections underscores the UK’s dedication to supporting its citizens’ ability to leave the region.
Advice and Updates for British Nationals
In recent days, the UK government has advised British nationals in Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories, including Gaza, to register their presence with the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO). This registration is crucial as it ensures that individuals receive the latest updates on departure options and ongoing security developments in the region.
The FCDO maintains its advisory against all travel to certain areas of Israel and the Occupied Palestinian Territories and advises against all but essential travel to other parts. This guidance prioritizes the safety and well-being of British nationals during this challenging period.
Commitment to Supporting British Nationals
James Cleverly, the Foreign Secretary, affirmed the UK government’s commitment to assisting British nationals in Israel and Gaza during this turbulent period. He emphasized that the safety of all British citizens is a top priority and urged them to continue following the provided advice and to maintain their presence registration.

In addition to flight arrangements, the UK government is collaborating with Egyptian authorities to facilitate the departure of British nationals and their family members, including spouses and children, from Gaza via Rafah. These collaborative efforts are vital in ensuring the safe evacuation of those in Gaza.

Given the evolving security situation, the Israeli military issued a notice on October 13, calling for the population of Gaza north of Wadi Gaza to relocate to southern Gaza within the next 24 hours. Commitment to Supporting British Nationals
The UK continues to advocate for unimpeded humanitarian access to civilian populations in the region. Ensuring the delivery of essential humanitarian supplies, including food, water, and medical necessities, remains a crucial priority to support the well-being of innocent civilians.
Earlier this week, the Ministry of Defence deployed a substantial support package to the region. This includes RAF surveillance aircraft and two Royal Navy ships, aimed at bolstering regional stability and preventing further escalation.
The UK government’s coordinated efforts underscore the importance of safeguarding the well-being and safety of British nationals while actively engaging in broader initiatives to address the humanitarian and security challenges posed by the ongoing crisis in Israel and Gaza.
