The UK government has announced a £60 million boost to support over 70 cultural venues, museums, and libraries across the country. The funding is part of the government’s Culture Recovery Fund, which was established to support the cultural sector during the COVID-19 pandemic.
The funding will help cultural venues to recover from the financial impact of the pandemic, support jobs in the sector, and enable the delivery of cultural events and activities for communities. According to Nadine Dorries, the Culture Secretary, the cultural industry has confronted tremendous difficulties for the past year and a half. However, this funding will aid in the revival and prosperity of our esteemed cultural spaces and establishments. We want everyone to be able to enjoy the rich cultural offer that the UK has to offer, and this funding will help to make that a reality.”
The funding will be distributed through the Arts Council England and will be used to support a range of cultural activities, from live performances and exhibitions to community engagement projects and educational programs. The supported venues will be able to use the funding to cover operational costs, such as staff salaries and rent, as well as to develop new cultural projects and initiatives.
The Culture Recovery Fund has already provided over £2 billion in funding to support the cultural sector during the pandemic, helping to protect jobs & enable cultural venues to continue to deliver events and activities for communities across the country.
The additional funding announced today will provide much-needed support for the cultural sector as it continues to recover from the financial impact of the pandemic.
