The government has stated that it recognizes the importance of aviation to the UK economy, but it also recognizes the negative impact that noise pollution can have on people’s health and well-being, particularly during the night-time period. By setting clear noise objectives and working with industry stakeholders to identify effective noise reduction measures, the government hopes to strike a balance between the needs of the aviation industry and the needs of local communities.
The consultation will focus on airports that have been identified as having significant noise impacts during the night-time period, including London Heathrow, London Gatwick, and London Luton. The government will also consider other airports in England, Scotland, and Wales that are affected by night-time noise.
The consultation will be open until 4 June 2023, and the government will publish its response in due course. Those interested in providing feedback on this important issue can do so through the government’s consultation website.
