Union Finance Minister to Inaugurate National GST Enforcement Conference

The Department of Revenue, under the Ministry of Finance, is gearing up to organize a significant event aimed at fortifying the enforcement mechanism in Goods and Services Tax (GST). Scheduled for Monday, March 4, 2024, the National Conference of Enforcement Chiefs of all State and Central GST formations will convene in New Delhi.

The one-day conference will witness the inauguration by Union Minister for Finance and Corporate Affairs, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, who will also deliver the keynote address. Additionally, Union Minister of State for Finance, Shri Pankaj Chaudhary, will be in attendance, highlighting the importance accorded to the event at the highest levels of governance.

The agenda for the conference promises comprehensive discussions on various crucial aspects of GST enforcement. This includes combating GST evasion by examining current challenges and sharing successful methodologies employed by both State and Central enforcement authorities. Addressing the issue of fake invoicing, which remains a primary form of GST evasion, will also be a focal point, with strategies for effective combatting being discussed collaboratively.

Moreover, the conference aims to facilitate knowledge exchange by showcasing best practices through presentations by State and Central enforcement heads. It emphasizes fostering greater synergy between State and Central enforcement authorities to ensure a unified and comprehensive approach toward enforcement efforts.

Furthermore, leveraging technology and data analytics to enhance the accuracy and efficiency of enforcement endeavors will be explored. The conference also acknowledges the need to strike a balance between facilitating a conducive business environment and implementing effective enforcement measures.
