Delhi: In a significant move aimed at enhancing patient care services and promoting digital transactions in healthcare, Dr. Mansukh Mandaviya, Union Minister for Health & Family Welfare and Chemicals & Fertilizers, launched the AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card at AIIMS New Delhi.

The AIIMS-SBI Smart Payment Card is designed to streamline payment processes for treatment at AIIMS New Delhi, ensuring convenience and security for patients and their caretakers. Speaking at the launch event, Dr. Mandaviya emphasized the card’s role in resolving the long-standing issue of patients from distant areas carrying cash to the hospital. He highlighted that the card can be easily obtained from facilitation centers across AIIMS New Delhi and utilized for payments at various counters within the institute.

Termed ‘One AIIMS, One Card’ by the Union Minister, the Smart Payment Card enables swift and easy fund transfers from any part of the country for urgent payment requirements related to patients at AIIMS New Delhi. Dr. Mandaviya underscored the significance of this initiative in aligning with the Digital India mission spearheaded by Hon’ble Prime Minister Shri Narendra Modi, emphasizing the newfound ease and safety brought about by digital innovations.

Furthermore, Dr. Mandaviya announced plans to extend the services of the Smart Payment Card to all AIIMS institutes across the country in the near future, reflecting the government’s commitment to enhancing patient convenience measures nationwide.

The Smart Payment Card provided free of cost to all patients, is linked to the patient’s Unique Hospital Identification (UHID) number and the Ayushman Bharat Health Account (ABHA) ID, ensuring seamless transactions and preventing fraud. Top-ups and refunds require a One one-time password (OTP) received on the registered mobile number, adding an additional layer of security. In the event of card loss, replacements are issued free of cost, with a balance transfer to the new card.

The launch event witnessed the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding for the implementation of the SBI-AIIMS New Delhi Smart Card system. Dr. M Srinivas, Director of AIIMS New Delhi, and senior officials from the Union Health Ministry and State Bank of India were among the attendees, reflecting the collaborative efforts driving this innovative healthcare initiative forward.
