Union Minister for Road Transport and Highways, Shri Nitin Gadkari, announced a significant allocation of Rs. 3371.18 crore for three crucial road projects in Assam. These projects encompass widening sections of NH-37 & 8 to 4 lanes, covering a total distance of 58.06 km under Packages V, VI, and VII of the Silchar Churaibari Corridor.
Shri Gadkari elaborated on the vision behind these projects, highlighting their aim to enhance highway connectivity to neighboring states such as Meghalaya, Manipur, and Tripura via NH-37, NH-06, and NH-08. The Silchar-Churaibari corridor, envisioned as a 4-lane with paved shoulders and access-controlled corridor, holds immense significance in bolstering international connectivity with Bangladesh through the Integrated Check Post (ICP) near Sutarkandi, Assam, on NH-37.
The development of these road sections is expected to ensure seamless and secure traffic flow, facilitating regional economic growth and fostering international trade relations. With improved infrastructure and enhanced connectivity, the projects are poised to unlock new avenues for socio-economic development in Assam and the surrounding regions.
Shri Nitin Gadkari’s announcement underscores the government’s commitment to infrastructure development and regional connectivity, aligning with the broader vision of promoting inclusive growth and facilitating the seamless movement of goods and people across the country. The allocation for these road projects marks a significant step towards realizing the potential of Assam as a key player in the nation’s economic landscape, while also strengthening ties with neighboring states and international partners.
