The Varahaswamy Temple is a Hindu temple located in Tirumala, a small hill town in the Chittoor district of Andhra Pradesh, India. The temple is dedicated to Lord Vishnu, who is worshipped here in the form of Varaha (a boar incarnation).
The temple is believed to be one of the most ancient and important temples in the region, and it is said to have been built in the 9th century AD by the Eastern Chalukya dynasty. The temple’s main attraction is the main idol of Lord Varaha, which is believed to be self-manifested and is said to be more than 3000 years old. The idol is made of black granite and is about 3 feet tall. The idol depicts Lord Vishnu in the form of a boar, lifting the earth goddess, Bhudevi, from the cosmic ocean.
The temple complex consists of a main sanctum, a mandapam (hall), and a pillared verandah. The temple is known for its intricate carvings and sculptures, which are a testament to the skill and craftsmanship of the artisans who built it. The temple’s walls are adorned with intricate carvings of various Hindu deities and scenes from Hindu mythology.
The temple is also known for its annual Brahmotsavam festival, which is celebrated in the month of September/October. During this festival, the idol of Lord Varaha is taken out in a grand procession around the temple, accompanied by music, dance, and devotional songs.
The temple is also a popular spot for pilgrimage and attracts a large number of devotees throughout the year, especially during the annual Brahmotsavam festival. The temple is considered a sacred place and it is believed that visiting the temple and offering prayers to Lord Varaha can help to alleviate problems, including health and financial issues.
