As we transition into May 2024, various weather systems are poised to influence different parts of India, bringing about a mix of rainfall, thunderstorms, and temperature fluctuations. Let’s delve into the forecast for the upcoming days:

North-East India: A cyclonic circulation over northeast Assam and another over northeast Bihar will continue to bring strong southwesterly winds from the Bay of Bengal to Northeast India until May 7th, 2024. This will result in widespread rainfall, thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds across Arunachal Pradesh, Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura. Isolated heavy rainfall events are expected in various states, with the possibility of hailstorms over Sub-Himalayan West Bengal & Sikkim.

East & Central India: West Bengal, Sikkim, Bihar, Jharkhand, Odisha, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Vidarbha will experience varying degrees of rainfall, thunderstorms, and squally winds during this period. The intensity will range from fairly widespread to scattered, with isolated heavy rainfall events and the likelihood of hailstorms in specific regions.

South India: Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Coastal Andhra Pradesh, Yanam, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Karnataka, Kerala, and Lakshadweep will witness isolated to scattered rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms, lightning, and gusty winds. Heavy rainfall is expected in certain areas, with the possibility of hailstorms over South Interior Karnataka.

Northwest India: A fresh Western Disturbance is expected to affect northwest India from May 9th onwards, leading to scattered to widespread rainfall activity over Jammu-Kashmir, Ladakh, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand, and parts of Haryana, Punjab, and Rajasthan. Additionally, dust storms are likely in specific regions, along with strong surface winds.

Temperature Outlook: Maximum temperatures in various regions were recorded above normal, with isolated pockets experiencing heat wave conditions. Over the next five days, heat wave conditions are expected to persist in isolated pockets across Saurashtra & Kutch, Gujarat Region, Vidarbha, Rayalaseema, Telangana, Tamil Nadu, Puducherry, Karaikal, Interior Karnataka, West Rajasthan, East Rajasthan, and West Madhya Pradesh. Hot and humid weather is forecasted for isolated pockets in Kerala & Mahe and Coastal Karnataka.
