The Indian subcontinent is currently experiencing diverse weather patterns, with significant meteorological phenomena impacting various regions. Here’s a comprehensive update on the prevailing weather conditions:

1. Trough at Mean Sea Level: A trough at mean sea level extends from south Sri Lanka to the west-central Bay of Bengal off the south Andhra Pradesh coast. This geographical feature plays a crucial role in influencing weather patterns across the affected areas.

2. Cyclonic Circulation in Southwest Uttar Pradesh: A cyclonic circulation is observed over southwest Uttar Pradesh, with a trough extending from this system to north Gujarat in the lower tropospheric levels. This atmospheric setup contributes to the development of specific weather conditions in the mentioned regions.

3. Dense Fog and Cold Day Warning: Dense to very dense fog conditions are anticipated in night/morning hours in parts of Punjab and isolated pockets of Haryana-Chandigarh on January 8th and 9th. Similar foggy conditions are expected in West Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, East Uttar Pradesh, Uttarakhand, Madhya Pradesh, Jharkhand, Odisha, Assam & Meghalaya, Mizoram & Tripura, and north Rajasthan on specific dates.

Cold-day to severe cold-day conditions are likely to persist in some parts of Punjab, Haryana-Chandigarh on January 8th, with isolated cold-day conditions in Rajasthan on the same day.

4. Temperature Forecast and Cold Wave Warning: No significant change in minimum temperatures is expected over northern parts of the country for the next 4-5 days. However, no cold wave conditions are anticipated during this period.

5. Rainfall Forecast and Heavy Rainfall Warning: Light to moderate rainfall is predicted in Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal, Kerala, and Lakshadweep over the next 4-5 days. Isolated heavy rainfall is likely over specific regions on specified dates, accompanied by very heavy rainfall in coastal Tamil Nadu, Puducherry & Karaikal on January 8th.

6. Western Disturbance and Rainfall Prediction: A Western Disturbance, manifesting as a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies, is influencing the weather. Expect light isolated rainfall/snowfall over Jammu-Kashmir-Ladakh-Gilgit-Baltistan-Muzaffarabad, Himachal Pradesh, Uttarakhand on January 9th. Light to moderate rainfall with thunderstorms and lightning is likely in Maharashtra on January 8th-9th and in Gujarat on January 8th-9th. Isolated hailstorms are also expected in East Rajasthan on January 8th-9th and in West Madhya Pradesh on January 8th.

7. Fishermen Warning: Squally weather with wind speeds of 40-45 Kmph gusting to 55 Kmph is expected along and off Tamil Nadu-Puducherry coasts, adjoining Southwest Bay of Bengal, Gulf of Mannar & adjoining Comorin Area from January 8th-10th. Fishermen are advised to refrain from venturing into these areas during this period.
