Weather Update: Rainfall, Cyclonic Circulation, and Western Disturbances

As November progresses, India’s weather is undergoing significant changes with various meteorological systems impacting different regions. On November 9, 2023, a Low-Pressure Area lies over the East-central Arabian Sea, accompanied by a cyclonic circulation over the Comorin area in the lower tropospheric levels. Additionally, two Western Disturbances are affecting northern India, which will result in varying weather conditions across the country.

Rainfall Predictions in South India

Under the influence of the Low Pressure Area and the cyclonic circulation, the southern parts of India can expect light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall. Specifically, South Peninsular India is likely to experience this rainfall pattern, while Konkan & Goa and Madhya Maharashtra can expect light to moderate isolated to scattered rainfall over the next two days. Kerala and Tamil Nadu are also expected to receive isolated heavy rainfall on November 9.

Impact on Northern Regions

In northern India, two Western Disturbances are making their presence felt. One Western Disturbance, in the form of a trough in the middle tropospheric westerlies, runs roughly along Long. 78°E to the north of Lat. 32°N, while another Western Disturbance, also in the form of a trough in middle tropospheric westerlies, runs roughly along Long. 65°E to the north of Lat. 28°N.

Under the influence of these systems, the following weather conditions are expected:

  • Uttarakhand can anticipate light to moderate isolated rainfall and snowfall on November 9 and 10.
  • Jammu and Kashmir, Ladakh, Gilgit-Baltistan, and Muzaffarabad are likely to experience scattered to fairly widespread rainfall and snowfall on November 9 and 10.
  • Himachal Pradesh can expect isolated to scattered rainfall on November 9 and 10.
  • Haryana and Chandigarh will receive isolated light rainfall on November 9 and 10.
  • Punjab and West Rajasthan will experience rainfall on November 9, while Delhi will witness the same on November 10.

Long-Term Rainfall Expectations

For the Andaman & Nicobar Islands, light to moderate scattered to fairly widespread rainfall is anticipated over the next 7 days.

Rest of the Country

However, for the rest of the country, no significant weather events are predicted on November 9, 2023.

It’s important to stay updated with the latest weather forecasts and advisories, especially if you reside in or plan to travel to the affected regions. Proper preparation and caution during adverse weather conditions can help ensure your safety and well-being.
