Bharat Bandh Today: In anticipation of the Bharat Bandh called by farmers’ unions, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police have announced stringent measures to maintain law and order across the district. The enforcement of CrPC Section 144, which includes a ban on unauthorized public assemblies, aims to prevent any untoward incidents during the protest.
The decision comes in response to the proposed protest marches by the Samyukta Kisan Morcha (SKM) and other unions, citing a myriad of unmet demands of farmers. With the Bharatiya Kisan Union (BKU) and the Noida-based Bharatiya Kisan Parishad (BKP) extending support to the bandh, the police are taking proactive steps to ensure public safety.
According to the police statement, Section 144 of the Code of Criminal Procedure (CrPC) will be implemented on February 16, prohibiting unlawful assemblies of five or more people, unauthorized processions or demonstrations, including political or religious gatherings. Additionally, the use of private drones within a one-kilometer radius of government establishments is strictly prohibited, along with the possession of weapons such as sticks, rods, tridents, swords, firearms, and similar items in public places.
In a bid to minimize traffic disruptions, commuters traveling to and from Delhi are urged to utilize the metro rail service whenever possible. The police have also issued a traffic advisory, informing the public about intensive checking at all borders of Noida and Delhi, which may lead to diversions and delays. Restrictions on the movement of goods vehicles along specific routes have also been announced to ease congestion and ensure smooth traffic flow.
BKU leader Pawan Khatana reiterated the union’s call for a peaceful strike, urging farmers, traders, and transporters to abstain from work for one day to press the government for their demands. However, he emphasized that protesters would remain in their respective areas and refrain from marching towards Delhi, indicating a commitment to maintaining order and avoiding escalation.
As tensions rise in anticipation of the Bharat Bandh, the Gautam Buddh Nagar Police’s proactive measures seek to strike a balance between upholding democratic rights and ensuring public safety. Commuters are advised to stay informed about developments and cooperate with authorities to minimize disruptions during this period of protest.
