Winter Weather Update: Above-Normal Minimum Temperatures and Dense Fog Forecast

Winter Weather: As winter tightens its grip across Northern India, the meteorological landscape is marked by mild nights and persistent fog. Minimum temperatures, ranging from 6-12°C, are creating a unique winter experience for residents in Punjab, Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and parts of Uttar Pradesh, Rajasthan, East Uttar Pradesh, Madhya Pradesh, Chhattisgarh, and Jharkhand.

Temperature Anomalies:

Recent observations indicate minimum temperatures are 2-3°C above normal in select regions. Notably, some parts of Punjab, Delhi, West Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh, Jharkhand, Bihar, Gangetic West Bengal, Gujarat, and Northeast India are experiencing a milder winter compared to the historical averages.

Dense Fog Warnings:

The upcoming days are expected to bring challenging travel conditions due to dense to very dense fog. Between December 28th and 31st, many parts of Punjab will likely experience these foggy conditions, extending to some areas in Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh from December 28th-29th. Isolated pockets over Odisha and Uttarakhand on December 28th, and Haryana, Chandigarh, Delhi, and Uttar Pradesh on December 30th and 31st, may also encounter dense fog. Furthermore, the foggy weather is expected to persist in Assam, Meghalaya, Nagaland, Manipur, Mizoram, and Tripura from December 28th to 31st.

Rainfall Forecast:

A fresh Western Disturbance is set to influence Northwest India from December 30th. This disturbance, interacting with lower-level easterly winds, will likely bring light, isolated rainfall to Northwest and adjoining Central India from December 30th to January 2nd, 2024. Residents and authorities are advised to stay updated on weather forecasts during this period.

Minimum Temperatures Forecast:

Over the next 4-5 days, no significant change is anticipated in minimum temperatures across the northern parts of the country. Residents are advised to continue to take necessary precautions to stay warm during the winter nights.
