Today is a very special day for the Hindi language and the people associated with it. Every year on January 10, Vishwa Hindi Diwas, or World Hindi Day is celebrated all over the world. On January 10, 2006, the Government of India announced the celebration of this day as World Hindi Day. The aim of starting World Hindi conferences was to develop Hindi in the world and promote it as an international language. It started in the year 2006. The first World Hindi Conference (World Hindi Day 2022) was inaugurated by Prime Minister Indira Gandhi.

January 10, 2006, was the first time World Hindi Day was celebrated. It has been celebrated every year on 10 January as World Hindi Day since then. Former Prime Minister of India, Manmohan Singh, had announced that January 10, 2006, would be celebrated as World Hindi Day every year. The Indian Ministry of External Affairs celebrated World Hindi Day for the first time abroad on January 10, 2006.

It is an official language in India and Fiji, and is also spoken in a number of other countries, including Mauritius, Suriname, Guyana, Trinidad and Tobago, and Nepal.
