Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Every year on the 8th of September since 1996, the world celebrates World Physiotherapy Day (World PT Day), a day dedicated to honoring the establishment of the physiotherapy profession in 1951. This special day serves as a tribute to the unwavering dedication of physiotherapists and the invaluable services they offer, helping individuals attain their optimal physical function, whether they are recovering patients or in good health, from basic mobility to complex activities. In 2023, World PT Day, observed on September 8th, focuses its spotlight on arthritis, delving into various forms of inflammatory arthritis, including rheumatoid arthritis and axial spondyloarthritis.

The Department of Empowerment of Persons with Disabilities (DEPwD), operating under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment, Government of India, serves as the central authority responsible for advancing the developmental agenda for Persons with Disabilities across the country. Aligned with its vision to raise awareness about the pivotal role of physiotherapy within the general population, the Department is all set to commemorate World Physiotherapy Day on September 8, 2023. This celebration will encompass a wide range of events taking place throughout the nation through affiliated institutions.

World PT Day provides an opportunity to recognize the tireless efforts of physiotherapists in enhancing the physical well-being of individuals and communities. It also serves as a platform to shed light on critical health issues like arthritis, emphasizing the importance of early diagnosis and intervention in managing and alleviating its impact on people’s lives.
