On June 07, 2023, the DRDO flight-tested the ‘Agni Prime’, a new generation ballistic missile, successfully from Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam Island situated off the coast of Odisha. All objectives were demonstrated successfully during the flight test.
The users conducted their initial pre-induction night launch following three developmental trials of the missile that confirmed the system’s precision and dependability. Different locations, including two down-range ships, were equipped with Range Instrumentation such as Radar, Telemetry, and Electro-Optical Tracking Systems, all deployed at the terminal point to capture flight data covering the entirety of the vehicle’s trajectory.
The successful flight test was witnessed by officials from DRDO and Strategic Forces Command, opening the door for the system’s introduction into the Armed Forces.
Raksha Mantri Shri Rajnath Singh has conveyed his congratulations to DRDO and the Armed Forces for the praiseworthy execution and performance of the Agni Prime, which belongs to the newest generation of ballistic missiles.
Dr. Samir V Kamat, Chairman of DRDO and Secretary of the Department of Defence R&D, commended the DRDO laboratory teams and the users who participated in the test launch for their valuable efforts.
