Union Home Minister Shri Amit Shah inaugurated the 58th DGsP/IGsP Conference 2023 at the Rajasthan International Centre in Jaipur, Rajasthan. The three-day event, conducted in a hybrid mode, brought together Directors General of Police (DGsP), Inspectors General of Police (IGsP), and Chiefs of Central Police Organisations. Physical attendance occurred in Jaipur, while over 500 police officers participated virtually from across the country through video conferencing.

During the conference, Union Home Minister Amit Shah distributed Police Medals for Meritorious Service to Intelligence Bureau (IB) officers and awarded trophies to recognize the three best-performing police stations. The event also saw homage paid to the martyrs from Security Forces who sacrificed their lives in service to the nation.

Minister Amit Shah highlighted the significance of the year 2023, known as the Amrit Kal, emphasizing two pivotal developments: the formulation of the New Education Policy and the enactment of three new criminal laws replacing outdated British-era laws. He stressed that these laws prioritize justice delivery over punishment, aiming to modernize and enhance the efficiency of the criminal justice system.

“Acknowledging the need for comprehensive training from Station House Officer (SHO) to Director General of Police (DGP) levels, Shah emphasized technology upgradation from local police stations (Thana) to Police Headquarters (PHQ) for successful implementation of the new laws. He underscored the importance of linking databases and adopting an Artificial Intelligence (AI)-driven analytical approach to address emerging security challenges”.

The Home Minister Amit Shah highlighted an overall improvement in the country’s security scenario since 2014, citing reduced violence in critical hotspots such as Jammu & Kashmir, the North-East, and areas affected by Left Wing Extremism. He recognized the conference as a ‘Think Tank,’ contributing to decision-making and the formulation of new security strategies.

“Emphasizing uniformity in structures, size, and skill of counter-terrorism mechanisms nationwide, Amit Shah outlined the role of internal security in realizing Prime Minister Modi’s vision of India becoming a developed nation by 2047. The conference is set to deliberate on a range of critical security issues, including border security, cyber-threats, radicalization, fraudulent identity document issuance, and emerging threats from Artificial Intelligence”.
