Army Chief of India Embarks on Visit to Egypt to Strengthen Defence Relations

General Manoj Pande, the esteemed Chief of the Army Staff (COAS), embarked on a significant visit to Egypt from 16 to 17 May 2023. This diplomatic journey holds great importance as it aims to strengthen the defence relations between India and Egypt. During his stay, General Manoj Pande will engage in crucial meetings with Egypt’s senior military leadership, focusing on avenues for further enhancing cooperation in the realm of Indo-Egypt defence relations.

Among the notable figures General Manoj Pande is set to engage with is the Commander-in-Chief of the Egyptian Armed Forces, the Minister of Defence & Military Production, and the Chief of Staff of the Egyptian Armed Forces. These meetings hold immense significance in fostering stronger ties and promoting collaboration between the two countries military establishments. Additionally, extensive discussions are planned with the Chief of the Egyptian Armed Force Operations Authority, further emphasizing the importance of strategic coordination.

The visit takes place against the backdrop of the steadily growing military relations between India and Egypt. A remarkable testament to this growing bond was witnessed during India’s 74th Republic Day parade when the Egyptian Armed Forces contingent made their inaugural appearance. Additionally, the esteemed presence of Egyptian President Abdeh Fattah El-Sisi as the Chief Guest at the parade exemplified the deepening ties between the two nations. Notably, a significant milestone in the relationship was reached in January this year, with the Indian and Egyptian Armies conducting their first-ever joint exercise between their Special Forces, aptly named “Ex Cyclone-I.”

The visit of General Manoj Pande, the COAS, holds the potential to further deepen the bilateral relationships between the Indian and Egyptian Armies.
