Arunachal Pradesh Chief Minister Pema Khandu extends heartfelt tributes to the late Manohar Parrikar, acknowledging his enduring legacy and profound impact on Indian politics.
In a statement, CM Pema Khandu reflects on Parrikar’s remarkable qualities, stating, “Former Defence Minister Padma Vibhushan Shri Manohar Parrikar Ji will always be fondly remembered.” Khandu further praises Parrikar’s humility, resilience, and unwavering commitment to serving the people and the nation.
“We recall his contributions with pride,” adds CM Pema Khandu, emphasizing the significance of Parrikar’s tenure as Chief Minister of Goa and Minister of Defence. Parrikar’s leadership and dedication to public service earned him accolades and admiration from across the political spectrum.
Manohar Parrikar’s illustrious career spanned various milestones, including being the first IIT alumnus to serve as MLA of an Indian state and the first Goan to hold a cabinet-rank ministerial position at the Centre. Despite battling terminal-stage cancer, Parrikar continued to lead Goa as Chief Minister, demonstrating extraordinary resilience and determination.
As a key member of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) and the National Democratic Alliance (NDA), Parrikar played a pivotal role in shaping India’s political landscape. His advocacy for Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate and his tenure as Defence Minister under PM Modi underscore his influence and leadership within the party and the government.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Manohar Parrikar was posthumously awarded the Padma Bhushan in January 2020, further solidifying his place in Indian history and collective memory.
