Estimated reading time: 1 minute

California: In a shocking incident on the Pacific Coast Highway, California, Dharmesh Patel, a doctor, drove his Tesla off a 250-foot cliff, allegedly fearing his children would be subjected to trafficking.

According to new expert witnesses, Patel experienced a psychotic episode, prompting the tragic event. Psychologist Dr. Mark Patterson revealed that Patel’s psychosis peaked before the incident, manifesting in delusions of being followed.

Miraculously, Patel, his wife, and their two children, aged 4 and 7, survived the harrowing plunge. Initially, Patel’s wife informed investigators about his depression and his expressed desire to drive the car off the cliff.

“Patel is now seeking mental health diversion, aiming to be released from jail and placed on a two-year treatment plan. This diversion, contingent on avoiding further criminal activity, could result in dropped charges.”

The case highlights the complex intersection of mental health and criminal justice, as Patel’s actions, influenced by psychosis, underscore the need for comprehensive mental health support and intervention.
