Estimated reading time: 2 minutes

Chaitra Navratri 6th Day 2024: On the sixth day of Navratri, devotees worship Maa Katyayani, depicted riding a lion with a majestic crown adorning her head. She is depicted with four arms, believed to alleviate marriage-related troubles when worshipped in this form.

Rituals for Maa Katyayani Puja

After bathing in the morning, devotees should wear clean clothes and take the pledge to perform Katyayani Puja. Yellow attire is auspicious for this puja, reflecting Maa Katyayani’s fondness for the color.

Offerings and Mantras

Offer Maa Katyayani rice, vermillion, turmeric, yellow flowers, and delicacies. Recite her aarti and mantras. The goddess is particularly pleased with offerings in yellow.

Special Offerings to Maa Katyayani

It is believed that Maa Katyayani is especially fond of honey and yellow-colored offerings. You can prepare halwa made with honey for the offering. Heat ghee in a pan, roast semolina until golden and add water. In another pan, add a cup of water, chopped cashews, raisins, and Chironji seeds. Mix roasted semolina when water boils, and add honey instead of sugar. Once the halwa thickens, turn off the heat, and add cardamom powder. You can also offer Maa Katyayani Pedas made from cow’s milk, adding saffron for a yellow hue.
