On the solemn occasion of Manohar Parrikar’s death anniversary, Chief Minister Yogi Adityanath offered heartfelt tributes to the iconic figure who left an indelible mark on Indian politics. Parrikar, synonymous with integrity and duty, was remembered fondly by CM Yogi for his unwavering commitment to serving the nation.
“Your simplicity and clean life are a lesson for all of us,” remarked CM Yogi, underscoring the profound impact of Parrikar’s exemplary conduct on the political landscape.
Manohar Gopalkrishna Prabhu Parrikar, born on December 13, 1955, served as Chief Minister of Goa on multiple occasions, leaving an enduring legacy of governance marked by honesty and dedication. His tenure as Defense Minister from October 2014 to March 2017 was characterized by strategic acumen and unwavering resolve.
Parrikar’s contributions to Indian politics were multifaceted. He was instrumental in propelling Narendra Modi as the prime ministerial candidate for the BJP before the 2013 parliamentary elections convention in Goa. As the Defense Minister under Prime Minister Modi, Parrikar played a pivotal role in bolstering India’s defense capabilities.
Notably, Parrikar’s achievements extended beyond politics. He was the first IIT alumnus to serve as an MLA of an Indian state, breaking barriers and setting new precedents in governance. Despite battling terminal-stage cancer, Parrikar exhibited extraordinary resilience, becoming the first Chief Minister to continue in office for over a year while confronting the disease.
In recognition of his exceptional contributions, Manohar Parrikar was posthumously conferred the prestigious Padma Bhushan in January 2020, a testament to his enduring legacy and profound impact on Indian society.
