Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma highlighted the profound impact of empowering women on entire communities. In Meghalaya, the Self-Help Group (SHG) network is playing a pivotal role in providing financial empowerment to women, enabling them to pursue their entrepreneurial aspirations. In Jaintia Hills alone, more than 6829 SHGs have been formed, and this network is creating wonders within their communities.
To further this cause, a Community Investment Fund of ₹66 Lakhs was distributed to Village Committees (VCs) in Jaintia Hills. This financial support is expected to enhance the socio-economic landscape of the region, particularly benefiting women and their communities.
Preserving Nature and Environment
Another significant initiative, GREEN Meghalaya, is committed to supporting communities financially in their efforts to protect, preserve, and rejuvenate forest cover and natural resources. As a testament to this commitment, Chief Minister Sangma distributed cheques amounting to ₹54.09 Lakhs to individuals and community leaders in Jaintia Hills. This financial support aims to incentivize and empower those working tirelessly to safeguard the environment in the region.
Youth Empowerment for Positive Contributions
Conrad K Sangma also underscored the importance of youth empowerment through the YESS (Youth Engagement and Support System) Meghalaya program. YESS Meghalaya is actively engaged in supporting youth groups, encouraging young individuals to participate in programs that foster personal growth and enable them to become positive contributors to their communities.
During a recent event in Jowai, Chief Minister Sangma handed over cheques totaling ₹4.90 Lakhs to youth organizations in Jaintia Hills. This financial support is a testament to the government’s commitment to harnessing the potential of the youth and encouraging them to play a pivotal role in their communities’ development.
Conrad K Sangma’s multifaceted initiatives in Jaintia Hills demonstrate a holistic approach to community and individual empowerment. By supporting women’s entrepreneurship, environmental conservation, and youth engagement, these programs are paving the way for a brighter and more sustainable future for Meghalaya.
