Aravinda de Silva is a cricketing legend from Sri Lanka. He is considered one of the best batsmen to have ever played the game and is a two-time World Cup winner. Here’s everything you need to know about this cricketing icon.
1. Aravinda de Silva: A brief biography
Aravinda de Silva, one of the Sri Lankan Cricketers who had made a great contribution to the Sri Lankan cricket. He was born on 17 October 1965, in Colombo. Aravinda started his cricketing career from Nalanda College, Colombo. He made his One Day International (ODI) debut in 1988 against Australia. From then onwards, he played for the Sri Lankan cricket team for about 16 years. He is considered as one of the best batsmen Sri Lanka has ever produced. He is the only Sri Lankan batsman who has scored a century in all three formats of the international cricket. Aravinda de Silva played his last match in 2004. He was awarded with the ‘Ranatunga Award’ in 2005, for his outstanding contribution to Sri Lankan cricket.

Aravinda de Silva was a family man who loved spending time with his wife and children. He was a successful cricketer, but his family was always his top priority. He was always generous with his time and love, and his children always looked up to him. He was a great role model for them, and they were very proud of him.

Aravinda de Silva played predominantly as a middle-order batsman and occasional leg-spinner in ODIs. He is the only player to score a century and take five wickets in the same match on two occasions in ODIs. He is also the first player to score a century in a World Cup final.
Aravinda de Silva started his domestic career in 1988, playing for Kurunegala Youth Cricket Club. He made his first-class debut for the Colombo Cricket Club in the same year. He played for the club until 1992. In 1993, he moved to Moratuwa Sports Club. He played for the club until 2003. In 2004, he moved to Nondescripts Cricket Club. He played for the club until 2007. In 2008, he moved to Ruhuna Cricket Club. He played for the club until his retirement in 2011.
Aravinda de Silva played a total of 318 first-class matches, scoring 18,898 runs at an average of 44.72. He scored 36 centuries and 97 half-centuries. He also took 246 wickets at an average of 34.02. He played a total of 405 List A matches, scoring 11,879 runs at an average of 36.36. He scored 19 centuries and 68 half-centuries. He also took 184 wickets at an average of 30.68.
Aravinda de Silva made his One Day International (ODI) debut against India in Colombo in August 1991. He played his last ODI against Pakistan in Karachi in April 2002. He played a total of 242 ODIs, scoring 8,481 runs at an average of 36.98.

Aravinda de Silva is a former Sri Lankan cricketer who played in international cricket from 1984 to 2004. He is regarded as one of the greatest batsmen Sri Lanka has ever produced.
De Silva made his Test debut in 1984 against England at Colombo, and scored a century. He was the captain of the Sri Lankan cricket team from 1999 to 2003.
De Silva is best known for his performances in the 1996 Cricket World Cup, where he scored two centuries and helped Sri Lanka reach the final. He was named the man of the tournament.
De Silva retired from international cricket in 2004. He was inducted into the ICC Cricket Hall of Fame in January 2013.

Aravinda de Silva is a Sri Lankan cricket player who played in the Indian Premier League (IPL). He was a part of the Chennai Super Kings (CSK) team from 2008 to 2013.

– Winning the IPL title in 2010 with the CSK team
– Scoring 402 runs in 38 matches at an average of 34.00 and a strike rate of 127.68
– Being named the Player of the Tournament in the 2010 IPL season

6. Aravinda de Silva: Achievements
Aravinda de Silva is an iconic figure in Sri Lankan cricket. He is the only player to score a century in all three formats of the game. He also holds the record for the most number of test match centuries for Sri Lanka.
Aravinda made his test debut in 1987 against India, and scored a century on debut. He was a part of the Sri Lankan team that won the 1996 World Cup, and was also the man of the match in the final. In 2002, he became the first Sri Lankan player to score a double century in test cricket.
Aravinda de Silva is also a successful captain. He led Sri Lanka to victory in the 2002 ICC Champions Trophy.

He is a professional cricketer and a philanthropist. Aravinda de Silva made his first-class cricket debut for Kurunegala District in 1984. He played for the Sinhalese Sports Club in domestic cricket. De Silva made his Test cricket debut for Sri Lanka against India in 1985. He played his last Test match against England in 2002.
Aravinda de Silva is a right-handed batsman and a right-arm medium-fast bowler. He is the second-highest run-scorer for Sri Lanka in Test cricket. He has scored 6,979 runs in Test cricket at an average of 42.02. De Silva has scored 16 centuries and 36 half-centuries in Test cricket.
Aravinda de Silva is a well-known philanthropist. He has set up the Aravinda de Silva Foundation to help underprivileged children in Sri Lanka. The foundation provides educational and health-care assistance to children from poor families. De Silva also sponsors the annual Aravinda de Silva Cricket Tournament to promote cricket in Sri Lanka.
