Mahmudullah Riyad has been an unsung hero of Bangladesh cricket for more than a decade. He has been a part of some of the most memorable moments in Bangladesh cricket history, but has seldom received the credit he deserves.

Mahmudullah was born in Rangpur, Bangladesh, on 4 February 1986. He made his first-class debut for Rangpur Division in 2004, and his List A debut for the same team the following year. He played for the national Under-19 team at the 2004 ICC Under-19 Cricket World Cup.

Mahmudullah made his One Day International debut for Bangladesh against Zimbabwe on September 10, 2007. He played in the 2007 ICC World Twenty20, and made his Test debut against Sri Lanka on July 11, 2009.

Mahmudullah made his One Day International (ODI) debut against Zimbabwe in August 2007.

He scored his maiden century against the same opposition in November 2009.

Mahmudullah was named the man of the match in the final of the 2010 Asia Cup for his match-winning innings of 101 not out.

In April 2015, he became the first Bangladesh player to score a century in both ODIs and Tests.
