The Central Board of Indirect Taxes and Customs (CBIC) recently organized an interactive session with various stakeholders in the Goods and Services Tax (GST) ecosystem at Indore. This significant event was held on the directions of the Hon’ble Finance Minister, Smt. Nirmala Sitharaman, to engage with trade associations and manufacturers and gather insights from them.
The interaction was led by Sh. Rajiv Talwar, a distinguished member of the CBIC, along with officers from the GST Policy Wing and CGST Bhopal Zone. The primary objective of this session was to facilitate an open dialogue between the government and the stakeholders, with the aim of addressing concerns, understanding challenges, and finding effective solutions to improve the GST framework.
Trade associations and manufacturers, representing various sectors, actively participated in the session. Their presence provided valuable insights into the ground realities and practical difficulties faced by businesses in complying with the GST regulations. The interactive nature of the session allowed for a productive exchange of ideas and suggestions, fostering a collaborative approach toward strengthening the GST ecosystem.
During the discussion, several pertinent issues were brought to the forefront. The participants highlighted the need for simplification of the GST return filing process, reducing the compliance burden on small and medium enterprises (SMEs), and ensuring greater clarity on GST rates and the classification of goods and services. Additionally, suggestions were made to enhance the efficiency of the GST Network (GSTN) and improve the dispute resolution mechanism.
Sh. Rajiv Talwar, along with the other CBIC officers, attentively listened to the concerns raised by the stakeholders and assured them of the government’s commitment to resolving the challenges faced by businesses. He emphasized the importance of continuous engagement between the government and the industry to create a conducive environment for economic growth and ease of doing business.
The interactive session at Indore is part of the government’s ongoing efforts to seek feedback from stakeholders and incorporate their suggestions in policy formulation.
