If you’re pregnant, you probably aren’t feeling your best. In fact, pregnancy causes a lot of physical changes in your body, which can make it difficult to feel well. But there are many different ways to combat the symptoms– and this article breaks down some home remedies for you!
What can cause a dry cough during pregnancy
There are many potential causes of a dry cough during pregnancy, but the most common ones are allergies and the like. However, other causes can include:
– bronchitis
– asthma
– sinus problems
– postnasal drip
– pneumonia
– laryngitis (inflammation of the voice box)
– viral infections, such as the common cold or flu.
But whatever the cause, if you have a dry cough, there are some home remedies that can help you feel better. Here are five of the best:
1. Drink plenty of fluids. Fluid intake is key to preventing dehydration, which can lead to a dry cough. Try to drink at least 8 cups of water per day, plus another cup or two of fruit or fluid milk. If you’re finding it difficult to drink enough, try using humidifiers in your home or taking over the counter medications like NyQuil or Vicks Vapor Rub.
2. Make sure your throat is properly moistened with honey and warm water. Mix 1 teaspoon of honey with 8 ounces of warm water and gargle frequently with this mixture for relief from a dry throat. Honey is known as a natural antibiotic and antiseptic that can help to prevent bacteria from building up in your throat.
3. Drink plenty of liquids containing the B Vitamins. Vitamin B6, also known as Pyridoxine or P5P, is one of the most important vitamins for good health, especially in helping to protect your immune system. You can find blood pressure pills with B6 already in them to boost your immunity, but you can also take it in supplement form naturally by eating foods that are rich in the vitamin. Eating a good source of B6 will help to protect your body from free radicals and free radicals can cause cell damage.
4. Eat high quality protein sources such as fish, poultry, eggs, cheese, yogurt and cottage cheese. These foods are very high in B vitamins and protein is necessary for the growth of red blood cells — which carry oxygen to every single part of your body while they deliver nutrients throughout the body.
5. Take a good quality multiv itamin that contains B vitamins.
6. Take a good quality probiotic with B vitamins and the cultures and enzymes to ensure that your digestive system is working at its best.
7. Drink plenty of water if you wish to drink more fluids per day to promote better digestion, but you can also take a digestive aid such as Miralax which contains sodium saccharin which increases the amount of water you will retain into your body for better hydration.
How to use Indian home remedies for dry cough
There are many Indian home remedies for dry cough that you can try at home. Some of the most common remedies include drinking warm milk, gargling with salt water, and taking herbal supplements such as ginger or guava. You can also try breathing exercises, eating spicy foods, and using a humidifier. If these remedies don’t work, speak to your doctor about other options.
Why home remedies don’t work
There is no one-size-fits-all cure for the dry cough that pregnant women are often diagnosed with, but many remedies do not work. The best home remedies for the dry cough during pregnancy usually involve gargling with warm saltwater or sipping warm tea. However, these remedies are only somewhat effective and may not provide long-term relief. Other home remedies that have been suggested include using cough drops, taking over-the-counter decongestants, and drinking ginger ale. However, these methods are not always successful and may also lead to side effects.
What can you do naturally to help ease the symptoms of a dry cough?
If you’re experiencing a dry cough during your pregnancy, there are a few home remedies you can try. Some of these remedies may help to improve your symptoms and make breathing easier. Here are four natural remedies for the dry cough:
1. Drink fluids regularly: Drinking plenty of fluids is one of the best ways to ease symptoms of a dry cough. This includes water, tea, juice, and other soft drinks. When you’re thirsty, drink more than usual; if you find that your cough is getting worse instead of better, drink even more fluids.
2. Make sure you’re getting enough rest: When you’re not feeling well, it’s important to get as much rest as possible. Too little sleep can lead to a worsening of your symptoms, including a dry cough. Try to get at least seven hours of sleep each night during your first trimester and continue to increase that amount as the pregnancy progresses.
3. Take ibuprofen or other over-the-counter pain relievers: If you find that taking over-the-counter pain relievers such as ibuprofen is helping to ease your symptoms, continue doing so. However, be aware that taking these medications may increase your risk of having a miscarriage. Therefore, it’s important to talk to your doctor before you start taking these medications.
4. Use steam inhalation: If you are unable to sleep because of your symptoms or if you find that using steam inhalation helps with your symptoms, then using this treatment can be beneficial. Just make sure that the water used is boiled and cooled first and never use boiling water in the vaporizer.
5. Take a warm bath: Taking a warm bath may help ease some of your symptoms. However, do not get into the tub with a hot water temperature if you have either a fever or an infection.
6. Stay warm: If air conditioning and heating are causing your symptoms, then staying in an environment that is cool with low humidity may help to lower your symptoms.
7. Drink plenty of fluids: The hotter you feel the more you need to drink. And remember, don’t forget that overhydration can cause some serious health problems as well so keep track of how much you’re drinking.
8. Go to a health professional: If you have symptoms of an infection or fever, then make an appointment to see your doctor – it could be something that needs to be treated rather than just eased a little.
