Indian Stock Market Closes Lower for Second Consecutive Session

The Indian stock market indices, Nifty and Sensex, closed lower for the second consecutive session on March 10. The Nifty closed at around 17,400, down by 176.70 points or 1%. Meanwhile, the Sensex fell by 671.15 points or 1.12% to close at 59,135.13.

During the day’s trade, 1404 shares advanced, while 2021 shares declined, and 102 remained unchanged. Among the major losers on the Nifty were Adani Enterprises, HDFC Bank, Apollo Hospitals, IndusInd Bank, and HDFC. On the other hand, Tata Motors, NTPC, Maruti Suzuki, Britannia Industries, and BPCL were the top gainers on the Nifty.

In terms of sectoral performance, the power index rose by 1%, while the bank, realty, capital goods, and PSU Bank indices fell by 1-2%. The BSE midcap and smallcap indices were down 0.5% each.

IRB Infrastructure was among the major stocks in focus, as it announced that its arm had won a project worth Rs 2,193 crore in Tamil Nadu. Shalby, Glenmark Life Sciences, Mukand, Shriram Finance, NBCC, and Dredging Corp were some of the other stocks that made news during the day’s trade.

In conclusion, the Indian stock market closed lower for the second consecutive session on March 10, with the Nifty closing around 17,400. While the power index rose by 1%, the bank, realty, capital goods, and PSU Bank indices fell by 1-2%.
