JP Nadda, the President of the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP), paid heartfelt tribute to Babu Jagjivan Ram on the occasion of his birth anniversary. Recognizing Ram’s profound contributions to India’s freedom struggle and political landscape, Nadda hailed his unwavering commitment to public service, social justice, and the upliftment of the deprived classes.

In his statement, Nadda remarked, “The entire life of the great freedom fighter and former Deputy Prime Minister Babu Jagjivan Ram was dedicated to public service, social justice, and upliftment of the deprived class. Today, I offer my heartfelt homage to him on the occasion of his birth anniversary. His work for the welfare of the poor and national upliftment always inspires all of us.”

Babu Jagjivan Ram, affectionately known as Babuji, emerged as a prominent figure in India’s struggle for independence and subsequent nation-building efforts. His instrumental role in founding the All India Depressed Classes League in 1935 underscored his commitment to attaining equality for untouchables and marginalized communities.

Elected to the Bihar Legislative Assembly in 1937, Jagjivan Ram’s advocacy for rural laborers and marginalized sections of society propelled him onto the national stage. As the youngest minister in Jawaharlal Nehru’s interim government in 1946, Ram played a pivotal role in ensuring social justice found a place in India’s Constitution.

“Throughout his illustrious political career spanning over three decades, Jagjivan Ram served in various ministerial portfolios, leaving an indelible mark on Indian politics. Notably, his tenure as Defence Minister during the Indo-Pak war of 1971 and his contributions to the Green Revolution and agricultural modernization are remembered as pivotal moments in India’s history”.

Despite political affiliations, including a stint with the Congress and later joining the Janata Party alliance, Babu Jagjivan Ram’s legacy remains unparalleled. His dedication to serving the nation and uplifting the underprivileged continues to inspire leaders and citizens alike, reaffirming his status as a beacon of hope and progress for generations to come.
