– Significance of karva chauth:-
This festival is celebrated on the fourth day of the dark moon period of Kartik month.. Women keep fast on this day to wish their unbroken good fortune and life partner good health and long life.
Karva Chauth has a special significance in Hinduism. Karva Chauth is celebrated especially in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Haryana, Madhya Pradesh and Rajasthan of India. Married women in Uttarakhand observe a fast of Vat Savitri for the long life of their spouse.
Hindu women who are married pray to Lord Shiva, Goddess Parvati, Lord Ganesha, and Karwa Mata during Karwa Chauth for the long life of their husbands. They wake up early, take a bath, have Sargi, and observe a nirjala vrat (fast) for the entire day. The moon rises and women see the moon and their husbands through a sieve, give offerings to the moon, and have some food to break the fast.
During the Karwa Chauth Puja, it is considered auspicious for women to wear traditional clothes in red or yellow hues, don the traditional symbols of a married woman (for example sindoor, bangles, bindi etc), and apply Mehendi on hands.
– Karwa Chauth History:
The Karwa Chauth festival can be traced back to the story of Karva Devi, whose husband was attacked by a crocodile, and Savitri, who asked the god of death, Lord Yama, to return her husband’s soul. Draupadi got worried and asked for Lord Krishna’s help to ensure Arjun’s safety when he went to meditate in the Nilgiris, according to another legend. “Just as Goddess Parvati took fast for her husband, Lord Shiva, Krishna advised her to do similar for Arjun.” The legend of Karwa Chauth is linked to Veeravati, who deeply loved her husband, according to Drik Panchang.
1- Regarding Karva Chauth, it is mentioned in the Lanka Kand of Ramcharitmanas that whoever husband and wife have separated from each other due to any reason, by worshiping the moon god on the day of Karva Chauth, married women wish to live with their husband for life. prays to Maa Gauri and Chandra Dev.
2- According to religious belief, Lord Krishna had suggested the fasting of Karva Chauth to Draupadi so that the troubles on the Pandavas could be removed
– Karwa Chauth Vrat Katha:
Drik Panchang says that Veeravati had seven brothers who pampered Veeravati selflessly. Veeravati decided to keep a nirjala vrat for her husband for one day while she was visiting her home.
She was so weak she couldn’t handle the hunger and fainted. Her brothers could not stand to see her like this and begged her to eat. She ignored their requests and waited for the moon to rise.
The brothers decided to climb a pipal tree and hold a flame behind a sieve when they heard this. Their goal was to trick Veerawati into thinking the moon was out so she would break her fast.
Her husband died unfortunately when she broke the fast without sighting the moon. The news was too much for her and she was inconsolable.
Afterward, Veeravati was consoled by Goddess Indrani, who is the wife of God Indra. She advised Veeravati to keep fasts each month throughout the year in order to ensure that her husband would come back alive. After being patient for a long time, her husband came back to her.
