A German former professional footballer who played as a striker, Mario Gómez García is now retired. He represented the German national team for 11 years from 2007 to 2018.

VfB Stuttgart was where Gómez began his professional career. Gómez was selected as German Footballer of the Year when the team won the Bundesliga in 2006–07, contributing 14 goals and 7 assists. He signed for Bayern Munich in 2009 for an estimated €30-35 million, a league record at the time.

Gómez helped Bayern win seven trophies, including the UEFA Champions League in 2013, and was the Bundesliga top scorer in 2011. In 2013, he left for Serie A team Fiorentina but was affected by injury during his time in Italy.

Gómez was loaned to Turkey’s Beşiktaş in 2015 and top scored as the club won the Süper Lig. He joined Bundesliga side VfL Wolfsburg for the 2016–17 season and helped them avoid relegation.

After the 2019-2020 campaign, he rejoined Stuttgart, helping them achieve promotion to the Bundesliga. Germany’s Gómez made his international debut in February 2007 and was selected for their squads for three UEFA European Championships and two FIFA World Cups. He was the top scorer at UEFA Euro 2012. International football retired him in 2018.
