Meghalaya CM Conrad K Sangma Inaugurates Chitmang Chaiwat River Valley Project

Meghalaya Chief Minister Conrad K Sangma marked a significant milestone in the state’s development journey by inaugurating the Chitmang Chaiwat River Valley Project. Funded under the Rural Infrastructure Development Fund (RIDF) by NABARD, the project is situated in the picturesque landscape of Badri Rongdong, South Garo Hills.

In his address, CM Conrad K Sangma expressed the project’s importance in advancing sustainable development and inclusive growth. He emphasized the government’s commitment to leveraging natural resources for community welfare. The Chitmang Chaiwat River Valley Project, comprising RIDF-XXVI and RIDF-XXVI (Additional), is a testament to this dedication.

Constructed at a cost of ₹1.77 crore, covering an area of 79.73 hectares, the project primarily focuses on rehabilitating abandoned jhum lands. CM Sangma highlighted the construction of the RCC Weir, a key feature of the project, spanning 15 meters in length and standing 3 meters tall. This showcases the government’s dedication to water conservation and management.

The project includes a reservoir with an impounded area of 0.3 hectares and a storage capacity of 3 million liters. CM Sangma emphasized its role as a lifeline for agricultural and aquaculture endeavors, ensuring sustainable livelihoods for communities in the region.

The inauguration of the Chitmang Chaiwat River Valley Project underscores Meghalaya’s commitment to harnessing its natural resources for holistic development, reflecting the state’s vision for a prosperous and sustainable future.
