Conrad K Sangma, Chief Minister of Meghalaya, has taken a significant step towards addressing the water needs of rural communities near Tura with the initiation of the ‘Bulk Water Supply to Adjoining Rural Villages of Tura Town’ Project. Funded under the North Eastern Special Infrastructure Development Scheme (NESIDS), this ambitious endeavor aims to ensure a reliable and sustainable water supply to villages in the West and South West Garo Hills districts.

The project, centered around a river pumping scheme drawing water from the Ganol River, holds promise for enhancing the lives of residents in areas such as Rongram, Rerapara, and Gambegre development blocks. These villages have long grappled with water scarcity issues, particularly during dry seasons, adversely affecting daily activities and agricultural practices.

With the foundation stone laid, the project sets in motion a comprehensive plan to provide adequate water supply to these rural communities. The utilization of advanced pumping technology from the Ganol River will enable the delivery of sufficient water to meet the needs of households, farms, and local businesses.

CM Conrad K Sangma’s commitment to addressing water challenges in rural Meghalaya underscores the government’s dedication to improving the quality of life for all citizens. By prioritizing infrastructure projects like the Bulk Water Supply initiative, the administration aims to foster equitable development across the state, ensuring that no community is left behind.
